Pre Season

With the season nearly upon us, the winter has flown by. After completing my season with a couple of UCI races in Asia it’s nearly time to race again. Just somewhere not quite as scenic and with a slight weather change of about 30 degrees. My first race of the season is actually in my hometown of Skelmersdale round Pimbo, the Pimbo world champs. Always cold but always has a good field of riders it will be good to get the legs going again.

During my time in Asia racing I became really ill losing 6KG in weight resulting in me not performing aswell as I would of liked to. Still trying to help the team the best I could we still came away with 2 great results. Both being the sprint jersey in both races which was a great high to end the season on.

After flying back home and taking a few weeks off the bike to regain a healthy state training soon started again at the end of October. Easing back into it with some base miles followed by the next block of introducing some L3 work fitness was soon coming back with the great help from my coach Roy Holmes of Holmes Cycling. With me also having Raynauds, a condition which gives blood circulatory problems the garage of my coach and his smart trainer soon became a regular sight when the weather got really cold. Spain was in sight.

After Christmas the training began to increase before I headed off to spain, taking a cold with me. Easy riding in the sun for a few days soon got rid and I could focus of getting some hard training in with some of my new team mates in calpe, not forgetting sitting in the cafe for 3 hours post ride taking in the sun and a small amount of food. Going back home tomorrow is going to be a shock to the system with me going back to from 21 degrees to a high of -1….that should be fun.

This year I’m going to be riding for TBW23, a southern based team with links to a top Belgium squad. We will be riding Bottecchia bikes with shimano groupset, SH+ clothing and accessories and finishing it off with Lake shoes. A great set of kit and I can’t thank Jason Nind for sorting all of this out not only for me but for the whole aswell as a healthy looking race programme, already taking countries in like Montenegro, Malta, Belgium and Holland.

I’m looking forward to this having had a good winter, with the continued support of The Lewis Balyckyi Trust fund, the new team and coaching from Holmes Cycling I’m hoping to have a big season. Make sure to follow all of above on social media to keep upto date with what myself, the team and everyone else involved is getting upto.

Thanks for reading, I’m going to ride my bike to the cafe down at the beach ciao.
